Late in August, the PowerMate® team had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. Rajan Kandoi and his long-time friend and associate Mr. Ajit Karnavat. This meeting was in response to their request to become the PowerMate® Distributor Partner for the country of India. The meetings were a complete success!

The State of Maharashtra, which their city of Pune is located in, has a population of 114 million people, encompassing an area approximately the same size of Labrador (*highlighted in red, right image*)!

Already a successful and reputable businessman in India, Mr. Kandoi believes that as recently as 10 years ago introducing an innovative product like PowerMate® may not have been possible. He cited the following emerging trends in India that suggest to him the time is now right for PowerMate® in India:

1. Responsible business. Safety has and is always important to the large number of multi-national corporations located in the country. Larger corporations place a high priority on their employees well-being and view safety as a “quality of life” issue.
2. Like many other countries around the world, the trend of younger people opting for higher education and fewer people wanting to do physical work is starting in India.
3. There is a trend in India to actively seek out opportunities for technological solutions and innovation to age old issues with an emphasis on safety, efficiency, profitability and growing sustainable business.
4. The Government lead political and economic direction is providing stability over the past 5+ years with the leadership of Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi. Mr. Kandoi is highly optimistic this will continue and even improve over the coming years.

In summary, Mr. Kandoi sees that the time and market conditions in India are right for the introduction of PowerMate® stair climbing hand carts and safety lifting devices and we agree!

It was a somewhat of a surprise to learn the PowerMate technology was new to almost all of the visitors to the PowerMate booth at the Show.*

#### **What is a PowerMate?**

Manufactured and distributed worldwide from Brantford, Ontario, this Canadian made technology is designed to safely lift products like; motors, pumps, transformers, generators, drums, barrels and drill tips; up and down stairs, dock leveling, on and off vehicles and across surfaces of all kinds. Some models even have the unique ability to act as a stacker, lifting loads up to 40” or 101.6 cm high.

PowerMate® is ergonomically designed to safely lift just about any load up to 1,500 pounds or 680 kilos. Attendees at the event where especially intrigued with the live demonstration of the  [PowerMate® LE-1](https://www.powermate.info/powermate_handtruck_le-1) Model moving a 425lb motor, the [PowerMate® LiftGate](https://www.powermate.info/powermate_handtruck_lg-3) and [PowerMate® M-1](https://www.powermate.info/powermate_handtruck_m-1) Models moving barrels. Although it was not at the Show, the new highly specialized [PowerMate® LE-1D](https://www.powermate.info/powermate_solutions/bid/94452/NEW-Barrel-Drum-Safety-Moving-Solution) solution created exclusively for moving drums and barrels was a hot topic of discussion with visitors.

Regardless of the application, almost all visitors saw the value of the rough terrain cart or “big wheel” attachments (pictured below). These oversized pneumatic wheels can be attached or removed in seconds without any tools. The rough terrain cart or “big wheel” attachments make moving across mud, grass, sand, gravel, rock, ice, snow etc. simple, safe and easy.

With minimal maintenance a PowerMate can last for years helping make Companies safer, more efficient and more profitable!

A common question at the show was about the longevity of the PowerMate battery pack. The battery pack is a sealed cell gel electrolyte battery with no memory - just keep it plugged in at night when the machine is not in use. It has been tested taking a 500 pound or 227 kilo load up and down a twenty storey building all on a single charge. The typical life expectancy of the battery pack is 4-7 years.
